Registered health problems and demographic profile of integrated textile factory workers in Ethiopia: a cross-sectional study

Abstract Background Textile and garment factories are growing in low middle-income countries as worldwide demand for inexpensive clothing increases each year. These integrated textile production often built-in areas with few workplaces environmental regulations, employees can be regularly exposed to workplace hazards little regulatory oversight. Consequently, workers’ health may significantly affected due long term exposure hazards. This study describes registered problems their association work-related personal factors among workers Ethiopia. Methods Institution-based cross-sectional design was employed this analysis. A one-year recording of worker’s clinical diagnoses (between March 2016 February 2017) gathered from the factory clinics three factories. Clinical diagnosis data obtained visited if feeling unwell. Sociodemographic characteristics information were factory’s human resource departments. The sociodemographic statuses 7992 analyzed. between (work production, support process) (age, sex educational status) studied using logistic regression Results average employee age years service 40 11 respectively. 60% females, comprising 4778 women. 66% all (5276) had 27,320 diagnoses. In total, caused 16,993 absent working days sick leave. Respiratory diseases (34%) musculoskeletal disorders (29%) most prevalent diagnoses, while bodily injuries cause work absences. Work department, status variables that associated higher prevalence disease groups. Conclusions About two-thirds diagnosed different types disease. department at a greater rate than process workers, indicating some related exposure. Further should investigate rare chronic such cancer, heart diseases, renal diabetes.
